Infection control Sister OT

There had been an overall reduction of the major hospital associated infections like urinary tract infections (40% in August- 2010, coming down to 12% – 15% at the end of 2011) and ventilator associated pneumonia rates (> 100/1000 ventilator days  in January, 2011 to 25/1000 ventilator days in December, 2011),  The overall hand hygiene compliance which is considered to be a key factor in prevention of infection has stabilized at  70% or more compared to 40%-42% compliance worldwide; which by itself speaks about the success of the infection prevention efforts at SVIMS.  As a result of the successful implementation of various infection control measures, there has been a reduction in the resistance of the common organisms to some important antibiotics like gentamicin, cefotaxime and ciprofloxacin.
