INTRODUCTION
Department of Community Medicine
Welcome to the Department of Community Medicine at SVIMS ,
established in 2014. Our mission is to advance the health and
well-being of communities through comprehensive education,
training, and research. Since the inception of our MD program in
2021, we have been committed to fostering the next generation of
community physicians and public health professionals.
Our department provides a robust continuum of community-based
teaching and practical training for undergraduate and postgraduate
students. We conduct theory and practical classes from the 1st to
the 7th semester for MBBS students, as well as for students in
Physiotherapy and B.Sc. Paramedical programs, consistently
achieving excellent results.
Our Goals and Commitment
We aim to orient students toward community health, preparing them
to respond to the evolving national public health needs while
adhering to global standards of teaching, research, and service.
Our objective is to create a professional workforce capable of
translating knowledge into action, ultimately contributing to the
vision of HEALTH FOR ALL.
Objectives :
1.
To prepare undergraduate medical students to function as primary
care physicians
2.
To prepare the post graduates to develop competencies in Public
Health, Management, Epidemiology, Health leadership, Teaching,
Training and Research
3.
To train medical students in acquiring skills to undertake
community based health research.

Education:
We train future healthcare professionals in community-based
approaches to health, emphasizing the importance of preventing
disease, fostering healthy lifestyles, and ensuring access to
quality healthcare.
Research:
Our department conducts impactful research to better understand
and address community health needs. We investigate disease
patterns, social determinants of health, and develop
community-based interventions to improve health outcomes.
Service:
We actively partner with communities to implement effective public
health interventions. Our commitment extends to celebrating
important National Health Days, raising awareness, and promoting
health initiatives that benefit all populations.

ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT BY THE DEPARTMENT
1.
Teaching MBBS, Physiotherapy and Allied Health Sciences students
through theory, practical classes and field visits.
2.
Training of Interns through postings in RHTC, Mangalam, UHTC,
Prakasam Road, Primary Health Centres (Vadamalapeta and Kuppam
badur), TTD Central Hospital, Community Health Centres at
Naravaripalle and Chinna gottigallu, Community Medicine OPD,
Palliative care ward.
3.
Training of Post Graduate students (Intake 2 PGs every year)
through postings at RHTC Mangalam, UHTC, Prakasam Road, Primary
Health Centres (Vadamalapeta and Kuppam badur), DRP programme and
other postings as per NMC guidelines.
4.
Observance of National and World Health Days every year which
include World Health day, Measles Immunization day, Hand Hygiene
day, World Environment day, Vanamahotsav, World Population day,
World Patients safety day, World Polio day, World AIDS day,
National Pollution Prevention day.
