Prof. R. V. Kumar
Director-cum-Vice Chancellor, SVIMS, TirupatiProf. R. V. Kumar is a distinguished Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon, bringing with him more than three decades of rich clinical, academic, and administrative experience in tertiary healthcare.
During his long and eminent tenure at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad, he served as Head of the Department for 11 years and performed over 10,000 open-heart surgeries, including pioneering the first heart transplantation in the public sector in Telangana.
Since assuming charge in August 2023, he led the first-ever triple organ transplantation (heart, liver, and kidney) under one roof in a public sector hospital and achieved NABH accreditation for SVIMS.
A committed teacher and researcher, Prof. Kumar has trained multiple generations of cardiothoracic surgeons and authored books on pediatric heart diseases. His leadership continues to strengthen SVIMS as a center of excellence in patient care, medical education, and advanced research.
