The objective of Department of Community Medicine is to teach and train undergraduate Medical students to enable them

  1. To acquire knowledge and understanding regarding Epidemiological and Biostatistical methods, Principles and Components of Primary Health Care, Health care delivery system, National health programmes, Principles of Health economics, Health administration, Health education in relation to community and others.

  2. To acquire skills regarding use of epidemiology as a scientific tool, collect, analyse, interpret and present simple community and hospital based data. diagnose and manage common health problems, plan, implement and evaluate a health education programme with the skill to use simple audio-visual aids, participate in the organisation of health care services and implementation of National Health Programmes.

Scope of Services

Provide list of services such as clinical care, investigations, teaching and community reach programmes being organized by the dept.

  1. Observation of World Health Day, World Breast feeding week, World Diabetes Day, World TB day awareness, World AIDS Day by the Community Medicine Department.

  2. Participation of faculties in Integrated teaching.

  3. Participation in other Academic activities.

  4. Attending monthly Rural Medical Health camps.

  5. Involved in Campus maintenance and SWACHH SVIMS programme

  6. Implementation of SwasthyaVidyaVahini Programme from June-2018

  7. Coordinating activities under UnnatBharathAbhiyaan a flagship programme of Ministry of HRD, Govt of India, Outbreak investigations.

  8. Community diagnosis through involvement of undergraduate students

  9. Providing preventive health care and family composite health care services in RHTC Mangalam and UHTC, Tirupati.

  10. Consultancy to faculties and postgraduates of SVIMS in Dissertation protocol writing, data analysis and reporting in Research proposal writing and data analysis.

  11. Guiding undergraduate research projects under ICMR STS.

  12. Hostel mess – supervision of SVIMS canteen and students through periodical inspection.

  13. Teaching and evaluation of BSC paramedical and BPT students.

  14. Involved in outreach activities include NTR Vaidyaseva camps and Medical camps.


  1. Laboratory :- Laboratory of Community Medicine is well equipped with Microscopes and slides, instruments, models etc.,

  2. Library :- Department Library has 105 books and journals .

  3. Museum :-  Department Museum has  Charts, models, nutritional items, Vaccines, instruments, disinfectants, insecticides and contraceptives.

  4. Audio - Visual Equipments:- LCD Projectors and OHP etc.,
